National Curriculum Assessments

In May, pupils in Year 6 are assessed in the three National Curriculum core subjects:

  • English (Since 2012, the Key Stage 2 writing outcome is based upon teacher assessment, the reading outcome and the grammar, punctuation and spelling outcome is based upon an externally marked test.)
  • Mathematics (based upon externally marked tests for arithmetic and reasoning)
  • Science (Since 2010 science has been taken off the list and only a sample of schools are tested each year.

These Key Stage 2 tests are marked externally and the results are reported to parents/carers along with Teacher Assessment information.

We also continue with our own well-established programme of assessment.  This ranges from careful marking of daily work to standardised tests and regular teacher assessments to gauge children’s overall progress.  We do, of course, record and carefully monitor pupils’ achievements in the National Curriculum subjects.

School Results

These tables show detailed results for Year 6 pupils (on roll at the end of May 2024), achieving each level at the end of Key Stage 2.  The cohort contained 65 pupils.
